The Dubai Frame is a massive picture frame that is 150 meters high and 95 meters wide. The Mexican architect Fernando Donis developed this project and in 2009 it was selected as a design winner in the competition by Dubai’s government. The competition includes 926 applicants who were invited to present a project that was to represent a “new face” of Dubai. In addition, the Dubai frame is built from aluminum, steel, glass, and reinforced concrete with Expo 2020 logo design. The Frame is located in the position of Zabeel Park which represents one side of the modern Dubai landmarks and on the other side we can see the old Dubai. An observation from the top structure, with glass-bottomed floors nearly 150 meters down the building. The lower span has a museum that shows Dubai City’s history and displays videos that show the city’s future 50 years from now.

According to the architect, while designing the structure he saw Dubai city as full of symbols so instead of adding one more, he thought of a proposal to frame all of them: like framing the city. Instead of creating a massive structure, the proposal was to make a void to constantly frame Dubai’s future, present and past development. Moreover, the architect states that after approval of the project he was excluded from it. Being forced to surrender the intellectual project property. In 2016, the architect filed a lawsuit against the Dubai city and claims that he has not received any compensation and contracts for this project. Since 2018, the architect and the city of Dubai have been involved in a legal dispute over ownership of this project’s copyright.

After that, you need to take an elevator of 93 meters with a panoramic view of the surrounding area of The Dubai Frame. Moreover, the elevator will lead to the main attraction area which is the Sky Deck. On the right side, you can see a modern Dubai with its huge buildings that Dubai has today. On the left side, you can see old Dubai, where the city was born. The two towers are linked by a 93-meter-long glass walkway.

At last, you take the panoramic elevator from the other side of the frame to go down. The people walk through a neon vortex channel that is on the other side of the mezzanine level. Also, this tunnel does work like a time machine which leads to a project with special effects and special audio that tells visitors how Dubai is expected to be in 2050.

WHERE TO BUY: For visitors who want to take something back for themselves or for their family and friends, when the tour ends, you will directly go to the souvenir shop and can buy things with the Dubai Frame brand. Also, you can buy pictures that were taken at the start of the visit.

THE DUBAI FRAME GARDEN

There is also a garden opposite the Frame that is known as the Dubai Frame Garden. In the grassy area and so many flowers, there is also a dancing and an illuminated musical fountain.

THE RULES TO FOLLOW TO VISIT THE DUBAI FRAME

HOW TO GET TO THE FRAME

Easily reach the Dubai Frame via Al Jafiliya metro station (Red Line). Convenient transportation awaits for your journey to this iconic landmark. You can see the map online. The visitors who are going by private car, there are parking spaces close to the entrance area of Gate-4. Starting 20 minutes parking is free but after that, you have to pay AED 10 which is valid for the whole day.

ENTRANCE: AED 50 for adults and AED 20 for kids aged 3 to 12 and free for children who are under 3.

SCHEDULE: Open 09:00 am to 09:00 pm. The visits can be scheduled after every half hour.
